Conceptualized in 2001 by Denver natives Rob Green and Jason Mathews, the two musicians plowed through numerous members until finally settling into the current stable line up with drummer Spencer Kiss (aka S-tron). After relocating and gaining wide recognition across the 1600 block of North Avenue in Chicago for their atmospheric, wave bashing, pop ditties, the Lavellas revealed their secret song writing process which involves eating fog, and causing self-inflicted damage to the retinas, which is most easily done by staring into the sun for long periods of time, but can also be achieved (at night) with lasers. The music is recommended for those who like rainy days and picnics in the sky.
Currently the Lavellas have just completed their fourth-coming album entitled “The Back Hall Sessions” and will be be formally releasing the record in Chicago Sept. 13 before hitting the road to play a few shows in support of the album. Jason (Bass Guitar/Effects/Back-up vox) and Spencer (Drums/Synth) continue to reside in Chicago while Rob (Guitars/Effects/Keyboard/Vox) lives abroad in Madrid, Spain promoting the band internationally and flying back whenver possible for various shows, festivals, recording sessions, and new collaborations with the band. The Lavellas strive to bring listeners creative atmospheric music while hoping to emphasize the importance of quality, musicality, and mood elements existing in all styles and genres. The new album consists of a versatile array of 10 songs and musical works and will be available to listeners at the band’s websites www.thelavellas.com and www.thelavellas.es (Spain and Europe) on Saturday, September 13, 2008.
